JP Morgan Demands Fingerprint or Eye Scans for Corporate HQ Admission

The banking leader has informed employees moving into its state-of-the-art main office in New York that they have to share their biological identifiers to gain entry the multibillion-dollar skyscraper.

Change from Optional to Required

The banking corporation had previously envisioned for the enrollment of biometric data at its new high-rise to be discretionary.

Yet, workers of the biggest American bank who have started operations at the new headquarters since this summer have received electronic messages stating that physical scan entry was now "compulsory".

The Technology Behind Entry

The new entry system requires staff to scan their hand geometry to pass through security gates in the entrance area in place of scanning their access passes.

Office Complex Information

The corporate tower, which apparently cost $3bn to build, will eventually function as a workplace for thousands of staff members once it is completely filled later this year.

Protection Reasoning

The banking institution did not provide a statement but it is assumed that the employment of biometric data for entry is intended to make the building more secure.

Special Cases

There are exemptions for certain staff members who will still be able to use a traditional pass for admission, although the criteria for who will utilize more traditional ID access remains unspecified.

Supporting Mobile Applications

Alongside the deployment of palm and eye scanners, the bank has also released the "JPMC Work" mobile app, which acts as a digital badge and portal for employee services.

The application permits users to manage guest registration, use building layouts of the building and arrange in advance food from the building's nineteen restaurant options.

Broader Safety Concerns

The implementation of enhanced security measures comes as American companies, notably those with substantial activities in NYC, look to strengthen protection following the incident of the top executive of one of the US's largest health insurers in recent months.

The CEO, the head of the healthcare company, was fatally shot not far from the bank's location.

Future Expansion Possibilities

It is uncertain if JP Morgan intends to introduce the biometric system for employees at its offices in other major financial centres, such as the British financial district.

Employee Tracking Developments

The decision comes amid discussion over the use of systems to monitor employees by their organizations, including tracking office attendance levels.

Previously, all staff members on flexible arrangements were instructed they must return to the workplace on a daily basis.

Executive Perspective

The organization's head, Jamie Dimon, has referred to the bank's recently opened skyscraper as a "tangible expression" of the institution.

The banker, one of the influential banking figures, this week warned that the likelihood of the US stock market facing a downturn was significantly higher than many financiers believed.
